DOR E ANALGESIA EM DOENTE CRÍTICO - PAIN AND ANALGESIA IN CRITICAL ILLNESS

ABSTRACT
Detection, quantification and treatment of pain in critically ill patients is a long-standing concern of clinicians working in Intensive Care
Units. However, the pain is common in critically ill patients, regardless of the admission criteria.
The authors present a review about analgesia in critically ill emphasizing the use of appropriate scales for pain diagnosis, quantification
and evaluation of therapeutics . Recommended pharmacological approaches (systemic and regional) are described and it is discussed the
evolution from acute pain event to chronic pain in the context of intensive care.
